Topic-aware post creation and more reliable newsletter sends

What shipped and what we're learning building Ballad, in your inbox. Unsubscribe any time.
When you create a founder post, thread or image post from Create, you can now pick what kind of topic it's about: Any, Building in public, Reaction, Your field, Personal, or The problem you solve. Suggest follows the plan's topic mix or the kind you choose, and greys out kinds with nothing real to draw on, so drafts are no longer always about the company. We also fixed newsletter broadcasts with long subjects being refused by the email provider because the broadcast name was too long. Names are now shortened automatically, so those sends go through.
Pick the kind of post in Create
If you create founder posts, threads or image posts from Create, you now get chips for the topic kind: Any, Building in public, Reaction, Your field, Personal, and The problem you solve.
Pick a kind and Suggest draws on that kind. Leave it on Any and Suggest follows the plan's topic mix, which by default is 30% building in public, 20% reactions, 25% your field, 10% personal and 15% the problem you solve.
Suggest draws on real material, so it greys out kinds with nothing to draw on. A greyed chip means there's no material for that kind yet. It doesn't mean something is broken.
Drafts are no longer always about the company. Before this, every draft ended up about the company, which was not what the mix said. Only ask posts and problem posts mention it.
Newsletter sends with long subjects now go through
A newsletter broadcast with a long subject used to be refused by the email provider, because the broadcast name was too long. The send failed, and the subject was the cause.
Ballad now shortens broadcast names automatically, so those sends go through. Your subject line is not touched. Only the internal broadcast name gets shorter.
There's nothing to turn on and nothing for existing users to change. Write the subject you want and send it.
