Campaigns

Every push toward a goal: launch weeks from a release, an article or your own brief, and the always-on sequences a new subscriber gets — approved once, measured as one.

Campaigns is where every push toward a goal lives. Some are dated — a launch week around a release, an article worth carrying, an event you're running. Some never end — the emails a new subscriber gets over their first weeks. Either way it's one object you approve once and measure as a whole, rather than a dozen posts you have to remember belong together.

Where a launch week comes from

Three ways, and every one of them is a proposal you trim and approve:

  • A major release. When a release is sized major, Ballad proposes a launch week around it — unless another campaign started in the last week, so a busy release cadence doesn't flood your Inbox.
  • An article worth carrying. Promote this on any published article proposes the pieces that carry it.
  • You. New campaign takes a name, what it's about in your own words, an optional page to point people to, a start date, and whether it's a bigger push.

That second field matters more than it looks. The pieces of a campaign you start can only say what you wrote there — the dates, the numbers, the names, who it's for. Nothing is added. If the office hours are on Thursdays and you didn't say what time, no post will invent one.

What's in a week

Ballad plans the week from what you've actually turned on:

  • Founder posts on each network you use, two across the week — three for a bigger push.
  • A thread on X, and a post from the brand voice.
  • The newsletter issue, if you have a newsletter lane.
  • For a bigger push: a Show HN and an image card, where those are on.
  • For a release: the changelog entry itself, as the anchor.

Each piece is pinned to its day at an hour in your own timezone, in the voice that should say it. Untick what you don't want, move the start date, and approve the week.

Approving the week doesn't publish anything. Every piece is drafted and still comes to you for review, the same as anything else Ballad writes. On the calendar and in the review, a piece says Part of its campaign, linked.

Always on

A sequence is a segment plus the emails its people get: signed up in the last 14 days and never ran payroll — and three emails over a week. Describe what it's for and Ballad drafts every step in the voice that sends it. It enrols people as they come to match and sends one person at a time, only to people with consent. Sending needs Resend connected.

The segment itself lives in People; the sequence lives here. See Newsletter and lifecycle email.

Measured as one push

A campaign's page rolls up what its pieces did together: what's published, landings on your site, and the conversions traced back to the campaign's pieces. For a sequence, opens and clicks per step, so you can see where people stop reading.
